Windows 8 Consumer Preview - The Review
Intro: Windows 8 Consumer Preview (2012)
Moving on from Windows 7 we come to their new flagship demo the Windows 8 Metro Cosumer Release. After trying the developer preview this is a lot smoother and nicer to use.The first thing that grabs you is the new design interface which takes the idea of hiding functions out of the way where they are easily accessible from the edge of the screen. This is the big thing about this WIndows because you can slide out and in apps and navigate windows instead of the start menu using the metro menu you are presented with upon startup. Everything is there and it is very easy to use. The thing I liked most was finding my way around a lot more usable than conventional windows. It is also very good at playing games and of course buildt upon an already stable windows model it is a step above everything else out there. Don't look any further because you will be dissappointed that you missed this OS.
The New Metro Feel:
It all starts in the metro menu system. From there you can load predifined programs and access everyting by either finding it in the menu or moving the mouse to the edge to access additional options. What I love about this idea is they have integrated a push system with open apps which means you can have two desktops running simultaniously on the one screen and slide them into and out of view.
Gaming is Greater:
Games run really well on this system too. The first game I booted up was HL2. When you are playing these games it feels a whole lot more emersive and enjoyable that you are seeing it from a new perspective that is not only more reliable and repsonsive, but can present it a lot better also.
Conclusion:
I will be picking up this Windows on release as it had taken my PC use to a better place and I will find that it can really do the things that I want to do the way I want to. The new Metro look and function really is an improvement and a step above basic menu styles. That is it. It just has style. 9.9/10
